DADO: The new wallpaper brand you need to know about
[Ad: Paid Partnership]
If you really want to make a big change to a space, you can’t beat a bit of beautiful wallpaper. Whether it’s a full room, a chimney breast, alcoves, or even a ceiling, wallpaper will give you some serious impact for relatively little time and money. Maybe don’t take on wallpapering a ceiling yourself though, okay?
Boutique wallpaper company Dado, collaborate with super talented fine artists, printmakers and fashion designers to produce a truly beautiful and unique, artisanal, collection.
Alongside in-house designs, the current collection features work from Jo de Pear, Matthew Burrows and Day Dress, with stunning designs to choose from across the board.
As well as championing their collaborators, sustainability is really important to Dado, and all wallpapers are printed to order in the UK on high-grade, paper, using water-based inks and delivered in recycled packaging. It’s super tactile, wonderfully matt non-woven paper, meaning you can just paste the wall. Trust me, if you’re doing it yourself, this is by far the easiest option.
Right then, let’s take a closer look at some of my top picks from the current collection . . .
I love Suzette from Dado’s in-house collection. Inspired by Suzani textiles as the name suggests, the large scale print and pared back colour palette, gives the traditional pattern a really contemporary feel. This design needs a large wall or full room to really do it justice as illustrated below. What a beauty!
From the Day Dress collection by Gaby Deeming, who knows a thing or two about interiors and fashion, and which of course go hand in hand, I adore the Lisboa design. Based on beautiful Portuguese tiles and available in the prettiest of colours, this design would bring instant fun and sunshine into practically any space. How fab would it be with colour-matched cabinetry in a utility room!
The Lineament print by artist Matthew Burrows, is a great choice if you want to go all out and paper the ceiling too. Used all over, this print has a lovely calming rhythm, adding pattern and movement, without completely overwhelming the space. So beautiful!
And last, but most definitely not least, Bamboo , by Jo de Pear. Jo is a professional print maker whose work is held in numerous collections, including at The British Museum and in the V&A prints and drawings collection. Her Bamboo print is based on cyanotype prints, which use the power of the sun to create graphic silhouettes, and has a wonderful ethereal, almost vintage feel to it. I’ve always loved a bamboo print, so was instantly drawn to this design in the gorgeous soft taupe which as you can see, made it into my living room.
When you’ve had a browse of their current collection, do also take a look through the first edition of their magazine, which not only showcases the wallpapers beautifully, but is jam packed with inspiration and the most stunning lifestyle imagery.
Though be warned, it will probably make you want to completely redecorate!
We will no doubt be seeing a LOT more of Dado popping up in beautiful homes, and I can’t wait to see what they do next!
