Sleep Isn’t One-Size-Fits-All with TEMPUR®

[This post is in conjunction with TEMPUR® but all thoughts are my own]

We all know how important getting a good night’s sleep is for our overall health and wellbeing, but sleep isn’t one-size-fits-all. There are many factors that can have an affect on your sleep health - some are easily addressed, while others can be trickier to pinpoint.

That said, there are some things that are not even up for debate, and those are the basic foundations - quite literally, what you’re sleeping on. Once you have bed bases, mattresses (the TEMPUR® memory foam mattress is in a league of its own!) and pillows sorted, you can start working on the rest.

In my experience, finding the right pillow has been absolutely key to improving my sleep quality. I’ve tried various pillows over the years, but have found the TEMPUR® Classic Comfort Original Pillow to be perfect for me. The way the TEMPUR® material gently cradles my head, supporting my neck and shoulders, enables me to drift off to sleep on my back and stay that way for almost all of the night - and as a previously incurable tosser, turner and front sleeper, that’s as close to a sleep miracle as you can get. It genuinely is a game-changer. Plus it has a soft textured cover, which can be washed at up to 60°C to keep it nice and fresh, and it fits a standard pillow case.

The other aspects that I know have an affect on my sleep that I also have sorted:

  • Linen bedding that’s changed weekly

  • Making sure my duvet weight is weather appropriate

  • Having a bedspread or throw folded across the bottom of the bed to easily pull up if I get too cold, or push away if I get too hot

  • Room temperature - which has been drastically improved since we had new windows installed, and this has also cut down on outside noise much more than I realised it would, so our bedroom is much quieter

  • Writing a list of things I need to achieve the next day, so it’s on paper and not floating around in my brain all night

  • Using a pillow mist

I took the TEMPUR® Sleep Personality quiz which has confirmed that I’m a difficult sleeper, and it suggested eating earlier and at a regular time which is a great tip - consistency is definitely something I need to work on, both with meal times, and my bedtime too.

Another big one for me, as I’m sure it is for many of you, is too much screen-time in the late evening too close to bedtime, which I really need to cut back on.

There will always be elements that are out of our control; for me that’s a wayward teenager coming in at all hours, and a naughty kitty-cat wanting attention and attacking my feet at 4am, but at least with my foundations firmly in place I’m well on my way to being a better sleeper, which without a doubt has a knock-on effect for general mood and productivity levels.

You can take the TEMPUR® Sleep Personality Quiz to see how you rate, and I’m all ears if you have any other excellent sleep tips!
