The Thermostat [21st April, 2024]

I know, I know.

I’ve been more and more absent from both Instagram and my blog for the past, erm… while.

I know it’s been noticed as I’ve had lots of messages to see if I’m okay, which is very lovely, and thank you, yes I am!

Without wanting to do that super annoying cryptic thing, but doing by default anyway (eye-roll!), eventually, I will catch you up on what’s caused my mind to be 100% distracted.

What can I say - I’m an all or nothing person to a massive fault.

That said, I’ve been to some lovely events, some of which are particularly relevant to Earth Day which is tomorrow, and it’s spurred me into action to put this post together.

FISCHBACHER 1819

I tuned in to a really lovely online event last month with Camilla Fischbacher of Swiss textile house Fischbacher 1819 (previously Christian Fischbacher). This family owned and run company are the oldest textile house in the world, and their new Nomadic Journeys collection is so very beautiful. The patterns, the textures, the quality, and the environmental credentials are all worth noting, and I absolutely loved hearing about the inspiration behind this collection, and fell in love with, well, pretty much everything.

If I HAD to choose some favourites from the collection, among them would be…

Benu Earth - a recycled, semi-transparent, double-width curtain fabric, with an open weave that’s unbelievably soft and drapey. It’s available in seventeen divine earthy tones and would make the most stunning curtains to afford a bit of privacy, whilst still allowing light to filter through.

Tibbu - another double-width transparent curtain fabric, available in sixteen neutrals, and is 100% hemp. Hemp plants require very little water, and grow without the use of pesticides or herbicides, whilst absorbing large amounts of CO2. Although Tibbu appears delicate, hemp fibres are actually known to be very robust and durable, making the fabric more resistant to wear and tear, plus it offers natural UV protection and resistance to mould and bacterial growth. Isn’t nature incredible! This fabric would be so beautifully suited to soft, light-filtering roman blinds.

Benu Mountain - moving on from the lighter curtain fabrics, Benu Mountain is a boucle that can be used for curtains or upholstery. It’s super soft and the stronger colours have a more noticeable contrasting tone to the weave. And of course, the fact it’s made from completely recycled yarns is a huge bonus.

Check out Yuma, a medium weight curtain fabric with a cool abstract relief pattern that’s little bit animal print, and a little bit Matisse, and Tramontana II, a linen wool blend - another beautiful wide-width curtain fabric with a beautiful drape too.

They have so many stunning fabrics to choose from, so apologies, but you will have trouble choosing!

LITTLE GREENE Re:mix

This is not new news, but if you don’t already know, I thought it would be timely to mention that Little Greene Re:mix paint saves a huge amount of waste by remixing returned and leftover unwanted paint into some of their most popular colours and it’s sold at a cheaper price of just £28 for 2.5L for flat emulsion for walls and ceilings. It’s a win for you, and for the planet. Availability varies but it’s definitely worth checking what’s available for your next project!

KEEP SOFA

Keep officially launch tomorrow on Earth Day, offering their beautiful modular sofas, that are designed to keep, and thereby hopefully reducing the shocking number of sofas that end up in landfill or incinerated every year.

They offer timeless modular systems that can be added to or reconfigured depending on your changing needs. They’re completely staple and foam free, with solid carcasses that are built to last, right here in the UK.

You can also buy new covers if you fancy a change, and replacement cushions too if need be.

They really tick all the boxes, plus they hold stock, so no waiting for months on end for your new sofa to arrive.

I’m really looking forward to watching this lovely new brand grow. Congrats on your official launch, Keep!
