Fab Five: Square Coffee Tables

I loved my vintage travertine coffee table, but there was something not quite right about it - it was a bit small for the space, and I think, as it turns out, the wrong shape.

Just as it took me several failed attempts before I realised that the only table shape that works for our dining room is oval, it’s taken me a few failed attempts to figure out that our living room layout really calls for a square coffee table.

So with that bee in my bonnet, the travertine went back onto Ebay (or ‘The Bay’ as we refer to it in our house), where I bought it from a few years ago, off it went to a new home, and off I went down the square coffee table shaped rabbit hole.

Obviously there are thousands of lovely coffee tables available, but it seems to me that it’s easier to find great rectangular or round ones than square, and bizarrely there aren’t actually that many that fit my criteria, which was as follows…

Less than £1500 (preferably a lot less)

A Low maintenance top, so probably marble or travertine, though I wasn’t ruling out wood if it was the right one, as that would bring some nice warmth into the room.

No smaller than 90 x 90 cms.

Not a pedestal base as it will be visually in the same space as our pedestal dining table, so it needed to be different. It also needed to able to used for support for older relatives when getting up from the sofa. I’m nothing if not practical. That’s a joke. I am often not at all practical, but in this case I do need to be.

Delivery within eight weeks as I don’t want to be coffee table-less for Christmas.

I had lots of messages asking me to share my findings when I mentioned this search was on, so here you go. You’re welcome.

Oh! The one I have ended up purchasing was on sale and now out of stock, so not included below, but I do really love all these and they would all have worked perfectly for me. Especially THAT delicious one from Pure White Lines…
