MICRO-TREND ALERT: Ashtrays For Coffee Table Styling

Hear me out: I am not, I repeat, NOT, encouraging smoking. As an ex-smoker I know I can never have even a single puff, or I’ll be back on a pack a day again before you can say Marlboro Lights. Maybe when I’m 80 though - once a smoker always a smoker, hey? But there’s something kind of cool about ashtrays, and I do remember my friend Kate (not Moss, and not of instagram), telling me months ago that they were in again, and if she said it, it must be true.
It’s a funny old (interiors) world isn’t it?
They’ve been on my mind - perhaps it was knowing that the arrival of a new, larger coffee table brings with it new styling possibilities. Or perhaps I just have an obsessive personality. Ahem…
So obviously I have found not just a few, but twenty-three of the coolest. These, my dear reader, I present to you as decorative, sculptural objects.
Many can double as trinket trays too, so you know, practical as well as pretty if you’re looking for a way justify it that doesn’t involve picking up a twenty a day habit.
And who knew there would be so many to choose from…
Normally I’d be all for vintage too, but just tread carefully here as some materials might retain the smell of cigarettes. That said if you’re not spending much it might be worth the risk if you find something really cool and you might find a magic way of removing the smell anyway. There is a plethora available via the usual suspects eBay and Etsy, and I’m sure many other vintage sites too.
Happy coffee table (re)styling with the thing you didn’t know you needed!
