The Rug Edit: Fifteen of the Best

When I asked on my Instagram stories last week what people were struggling to find or wanted some suggestions for, there was an overwhelming cry for help with rugs.

Gone are the days when you have to spend thousands to get a beautiful, good quality rug. However, now the problem is that the choice can be a bit overwhelming. Where do you even start?!

Lucky for you, rugs are one of my favourite things to find, so rather than just giving you a few options on stories, I’ve put together a bigger edit of all my favourites from the retailers on my go-to for rugs list. They are all worth putting on your rug radar for when you need them.

My general rule when choosing rugs is to keep them relatively neutral so that they add warmth and interest to a room without overwhelming it. They are also a good way of bringing in some subtle colour and pattern which you can then draw inspiration from for other soft furnishings such as cushions, throws and lampshades, giving the room a cohesive feel.

I prefer rugs with a quiet pattern and texture which is always as good idea as it’s more forgiving in busy homes. And never underestimate the power of a good rug to zone and ground a space.

There are SO many good options about at the moment, I had trouble keeping it down to fifteen…

Remember to get the size right for your room. While I disagree with the notion that you ‘must’ go as big as the room can take, I do think that a too small rug just floats and doesn’t to a space any favours. Every space is different, you need to go with what works for you.

As always, consider vintage options too. Great places to look include Etsy, Ebay, and Instagram is awash with sellers of both vintage and new authentic Berber rugs too. Obviously it’s more expensive to go vintage and authentic sometimes, but if your budget stretches, they’re investment pieces that will hold their value if looked after.
